Couples Therapy

Are you feeling disconnected from your partner? Are you wondering where the loving feelings went? Does it seem like every conversation turns into an argument? Are you feeling hurt, unappreciated and misunderstood? Couples come to me for a variety of issues including finances, infidelity, in-laws, conflict over division of labor, unmet expectations, sexual issues and parenting.

I understand the heartache that can come when relationships aren't going well.  The good news is that many problems are solvable, and for the unsolvable, we can learn to thrive in spite of them.  In order to build solutions to problems, I help each of you to  talk about what you would like your relationship to be like instead. Talking about your hopes and preferences brings relief as it places the focus on what it is that you do want and allows you to move away from staying stuck in the problems and the painful feelings that come with it.

As each of you describe your desired transformation, it becomes more vivid, allowing you to  imagine  and feel the good feelings that come along with talking about the life you desire.  We then explore and uncover your unique strengths that will support you in creating the future that you want.

My main role is to help you to remember and connect to your best hopes.

I do this by being a story listener.  This is powerful as you may have never had a chance to talk about your problems nor thought or spoken about what you really want -and so may have never shared it with your partner.

- A good listener is one who helps us overhear ourselves  Yahia Lababidi    Egyptian American poet

This approach allows you to experience alternate possibilities for the future of your relationship.  If your mutual best hope is to have a lasting loving           relationship and you focus on it, then it's possible for you to create it. You can feel inspired about your life together and  consistently have access to           joy, connection, love, fun, fulfillment; explore what's important to you and become more of who you truly are so that you can reshape your lives and           positively impact yourselves, each other, your families, colleagues and friends.

I warmly welcome individuals and couples from all backgrounds, including the LGBTQ+ community, providing a safe and affirming space for everyone  to explore and strengthen their relationships.

Having experienced challenging times with my husband back in the day, and not knowing how to resolve it, I have great compassionate for the depth of suffering you may be experiencing. I've learned that while the heartache and problems are real and valid, in order to make things better, it's important to move from ongoing talk about the problem to a focus on how you would rather feel and what transformation you are looking for. This sort of conversation allows you to  access good feelings, which is essential in order to build the life you want.

The content of the conversation  is about each of  your desires and strengths and the transformation you are looking for.  I use the language that each of you use,  to ask you detailed questions that lead to you talking about and imagining yourselves living your desired future so that you can create it.

I integrate teachings in emotional fitness, positive psychology, mindfulness, emotion regulation, distress tolerance, spirituality, and energy, based on your specific desires.
